Sunday School Prize Giving June 2011

The third week in June was a very busy one at St. Columba's Church, Jersey.
Firstly, we had the 91st birthday of Roselle Baker, our longest serving member, who joined our Church in
July 1936. Roselle is seen here seated at home with some of her birthday cards and a bouquet of flowers sent by the Rev Robert Nicol, a former minister of this church. She also attended a lunch at the Greenhill Country Hotel.
On the Saturday, the children had their picnic at Millbrook Park and later, down by the beach, in glorious weather.
Next day they were in Church for the annual "Prize Giving". Here you see part of their entry procession. The theme for this year was the "King James" or "authorised" version of the Bible.
First there was a "Shoe Box" presentation by the younger children of various biblical scenes and stories. They had made all the boxes themselves and there were many more than you can see here.

Then came biblical readings by young and old. An innovation this year was to read a verse in the Authorised Version followed by a "translation" of the same verse in a modern version. A further variation were readings in Japanese and German by two members of the congregation speaking in their mother tongues.

The "Prizes" were duly handed out;

and the collection was uplifted by our junior members.

Finally a big THANK YOU to all our Sunday School teachers (at St. Columba's we call it the J.a.M. Club) who do such sterling work throughout the year.
WELL DONE
